What it's like
Kuna's story starts on the Silver Trail, the stage road that carried freight from Boise to the Owyhee mines, and at 15 Mile House, the rest stop that became the area's first settlement. In 1882 the Oregon Short Line set up a work camp where that road crossed the tracks and named it Kuna. A later townsite took shape after a picnic on Indian Creek, according to the City of Kuna's history page.
Indian Creek is still the center of town. The city greenbelt follows the creek to Orchard Street, with shade trees, picnic tables, a skate park and a BMX dirt track. Bernie Fisher Park, at the southwest corner of Main Street and Linder Road, hosts Kuna Days and the December park lighting.
Head south and the houses thin out fast. Swan Falls Road leaves town at Avalon Street and enters the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. The BLM's 62-mile driving tour passes Kuna Butte and Initial Point, the lava butte where Idaho's official land survey began in 1867.
Most of the housing is recent. Census ACS 2020–2024 estimates (B25034, B25024) put 75.8% of Kuna's homes as built in 2000 or later, and 92.3% are detached single-family houses.
